SUMMARY:Packraft Expedition Training | Taoyuan\, Taiwan | November 22nd - December 1st\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join SSI for a 10-day expedition-style packrafting training across the remote mountain rivers of Taiwan. Based out of Taoyuan\, this immersive journey explores a network of steep\, technical Class III–IV rivers flowing through narrow jungle canyons\, towering mountain terrain\, mineral-rich hot springs\, and some of the most dynamic whitewater landscapes on Earth. With 8 days on the water and over a mile of vertical river descent throughout the expedition\, this is a true international expedition training experience built for paddlers ready to operate in complex and remote environments. \nDesigned as the capstone course within SSI’s packrafting training progression\, expedition members will apply foundational rescue and expedition skills in real-world scenarios while learning the systems required to safely lead and manage remote river expeditions. Participants will develop efficient expedition systems for self-supported travel\, river logistics\, scouting\, group movement\, technical decision-making\, and expedition leadership while navigating Taiwan’s endlessly changing rivers shaped by typhoons\, dense jungle terrain\, and steep mountain drainages. \nThis is not a single-river trip — it is a full-spectrum expedition experience. Expedition members will move between multiple river systems throughout Taiwan\, camping and staying in mountain villages while immersing themselves in the culture\, terrain\, and rhythm of expedition travel. Along the way\, participants will paddle crystal-clear blue and emerald-green rivers\, explore remote hot springs\, eat at local indigenous restaurants\, and descend waterfalls during a guided canyoning experience. \nGroup size is intentionally limited to create a highly personalized and cohesive expedition team experience. This training is designed for paddlers seeking more than just whitewater — expect immersive travel\, real expedition challenges\, team-based problem solving\, and the opportunity to build the skills necessary to confidently explore rivers around the world. If you’re ready to elevate your expedition skillset and experience one of the most exciting packrafting destinations on the planet\, Taiwan is calling. \nCOURSE DETAILS \nFor a full description and daily itinerary please visit ABOUT THIS COURSE \nWHEN: November 22nd – December 1st\, 2026 \nWHERE: Taoyuan\, Taiwan \nFIELD SITE: Multiple Taiwan Rivers \nINSTRUCTOR: Corry Jones \n \nCorry Jones is originally from the concrete jungle of Long Beach California but he quickly found himself in Jackson WY at at just 18 years old pursuing a guide job on the Snake River. Nine years later\, Corry is still guiding on the Snake and has spent his winters abroad rafting\, climbing\, and guiding sea kayaking trips from Maui to Central America and even as far as Tasmania. As an instructor with SSI\, Corry enjoys sharing the excitement of swimming whitewater with our recreationalists and river guides in class. This spring\, catch him on USA Network’s Race to Survive New Zealand. \n
