We’ve partnered with the American Packrafting Association for the upcoming 2024 Packraft Roundup in Idaho to present the Basic Packraft Training on the South Fork Payette! Please note, this is a two-day non-certification course, and registration, handled by Bear Valley Rafting, is required for payment. The course is taught by SSI instructors and all questions should be directed to info@swiftwatersafetyinstitute.com.
The training, led by SSI instructors, including Jeff Creamer as the lead instructor, accommodates only 12 students, so early registration is encouraged.
ONLINE COMPONENT: Yes – Optional (but highly recommended)
COURSE FORMAT: 2-day field course with 2 hours of online training and two 8-hour in-field training days. Total class length: 18hrs.

ABOUT THIS COURSE:
If you are new to paddle sports or packrafting and haven’t undergone formal paddling training, the basic packraft training is designed for you. Foundational skills are provided, enabling informed decision-making and understanding of craft mechanics. The training covers essential aspects such as boat inflation, outfitting, fit personalization, paddles, strokes, and self-rescue. Throughout the course, on-water practice is prioritized, allowing for navigation of class II+ – III- water and fostering a hands-on learning experience.
